This is a touchy subject with me at the moment. As anyone who follows my work will know, I list my stuff on
ebay and 'hope' that it will fetch a reasonable return for my efforts, and usually it does, but lately I've had quite a few people who have bid but not won, and then contacted me to ask how much I would charge them for a commissioned work. That's fine, I don't mind that, even though I don't usually undertake commissions anymore. But I think I've finally sussed out the real reason behind this influx of requests - they actually think they are going to get it cheaper...HA! Can you believe that? Now I'm not going to go into the boring details, but I can tell you there have been one or two of these requests recently that have definitely ruffled my artistic feathers enough to say, I am no longer taking on commissions, at least for the forseeable future! There, my little rant is over....time to move on.

I think you are right on target!!! Maybe you need to just consider switching to "buy it now" . Or doing etsy. I Love etsy. OMG Poor Barney. My heart just dropped . I cannot thank you enough for giving this sweet pup a home for now and care and helping him find his forever home.. What is with people!!! julie
Hi Gail this is a P.S to my earlier blog comment . My Peanut has to have her hips replaced . It is more then a "wheel' out My husband calls Peanut legs her
" wheels" as they make her go... My heart is breaking for her. I may need to get her a doggie stroller. She has one for my bike and loves it as she goes on bike rides with me and rides behind in the cart. I wonder if I could rent a stroller for her during her recovery time from the hip surgery. HMMM Please keep us posted on Barney what a sweetie julie
I can't blame you a bit. I've definitely 'given' away some of my work on ebay too. I understand getting a good deal, but geez... :)
I've only recently opened an Etsy shop, and just learning how to navigate my way around, but I think you would do so well on there!
Hi Gail, I just found your blog and am so happy I did. Your art is inspiring and your love for animals speaks to me! I'll be back often! :) Silke
HI Gail,l You wrote me about your doggie stroller. What is wrong with your pup ?? JUlie
Hi Gail, you are right on this. I did commissions on ebay and my bids went down. So best to place on your ebay Me page or something. That you are a free artist spirit please do not offend me by asking for commissions.
Commissions get silly sometimes as then you are asked to paint a certain painting of what you have done before and this just is so destructive. Goes on and on. I am feeling rather art struck up and down. I want to move on but are painting commission and it take sme all my heart to lift enough and force myself to do these. Glad when I am done but sad when there is another.
Good for money but deflates your artist freedom.
I am wanting to return to Ebay at some point, but want to paint what I want to and be free again.
Don't go down the controlled path it is too painful!
Julie-Anne, you are sooo correct about this! I feel awful saying it but I find doing commissions too stifling and very difficult to finish. You are right about the ebay thing too - I am constantly asked to do repeat paintings and it drains the life out of my art, for me anyway. I have stopped doing them now.
Hugs
Gail x
